Come Along, I’m Heading South for my Lecture Series

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Next week I head South for the beginning of my spring lecture series and book signing at the Huntsville Museum of Art. I cannot wait! This wonderful group, under the leadership of charismatic Christopher Madkour, really knows how to roll out the red carpet — three days of events!

For many, many reasons, I always anticipate my speaking engagements — not the least for the gracious people and hosts I meet but as well for the garden visits that are always top of my list. In fact, it was in New Orleans two years ago for just such an engagement that I was prompted to start my now annual winter  blog series, “Inspiring Garden Design.” Just reflecting back on those visits brings a smile to my face…the diversity in garden design and plant material truly starts my creative juices flowing! Come along with me.

Dreamy Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown…

A new home with Old World sensibilities on Jupiter Island…

A wrap-you-in-its-arms courtyard in New Orleans…

An enchanting folly near the Eastern Shore…

A spot on Lake Como? No, Palm Beach overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway…

A NOLA parterre garden, with a quirky sense of humor…

Green embellishments to a villa on John’s Island

An aerial view of a spring garden in Easton, Maryland

And to finish my revelry, a National Register property in Hobe Sound (where Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn carried on their love affair)…

Ours is a wonderful country and I cherish the opportunity to travel and see it through the eyes of others. If you wish to know more about my lecture series, simply click here or contact me directly at Looking forward to hearing from you!

  4. Have a great trip, Bettie–wish I could be there! I know what you mean about so many beautiful places in the world–you just wish you could see them all. Your blog is outstanding, and I’ve so enjoyed all the posts.

  5. I am not at all artistic cannot even draw a good stick person. 🙂 But I do have a garden journal. I used a 3 ring binder and plastic page protectors. On a sheet of notebook paper, I tape the tag (and receipt) from the plant. I then write the name at the top and list all the information about the plant, including where it” planted, water, light, & other needs. When to prune and the date. And anything thing else I think I might want to remember. It”s not fancy or even very pretty, but it works well. Oh, I also named my different garden areas to easily identify where I planted things. I have a patio garden, herb garden, pool garden, flower garden, woodland garden and retreat garden.

    1. Sounds like you are doing a great job…and it has nothing to do with being able to draw!!Congrats!
