Creating a Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s the tail end of the growing season; time for cutting back, pulling out, bedding down. And thinking about making an arrangement with those worthy leftovers from the garden.

So, with Thanksgiving in mind, I’ve created a brief “how to” video which will hopefullly inspire you to pull together your own table centerpiece for this celebratory day. It’s a real hands-on endeavor, filmed in my mudroom amidst all my containers and garden notebooks after I’d been out foraging. So much is to be found at this time of the year, my favorite season of all. Here is what I included in my pumpkin (which is hollowed out and lined with a plastic container).

Plant List

Dahlia
 Belamcanda chinensis
Hosta
Rose ‘Julia Child’
Angelica gigas

Kale
Clematis paniculata
Pokeweed
Coleus ‘Saturn’
Cimicifuga

Everything from the blue-gray curly leaves of kale to seed pods of the belamcanda chinensis (love that mouthful…otherwise known as “blackberry lily”) to pokeweed. Does this not say FALL? And of course the bright, blousy dahlias that are a gift to any autumn garden.

It’s a great project for the young ones, too!

  2. Oh that is lovely! My flowers are long gone as winter has settled in. Could buy some fresh cut flowers and make something like this though! Very creative and beautiful!
