While every gardener brings their own imprint to their creation, and certainly there is a notable variety in this idyllic part of Italy and Switzerland, some offer more “eccentricity” than others. Such is Parco Scherrer, a small botanical/sculpture garden created on a challengingly steep hillside overlooking Lake Lugano in Switzerland.
Located in the small, beyond-charming town of Morcote, the garden was started in 1930 by Arturo Scherrer, an erudite and well-traveled textile merchant. Scherrer’s passion for art and antiquities plays out against a collection of exotic and oriental plants also acquired during his travels including cypresses, camellias, camphor and eucalyptus trees, cedars araucarias, palms and bamboo woods.

Talk about a WOW! statement...consider the new “Trunk Building,” gracing the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th Street. Ahead of a multi-year renovation of their New York flagship, Louis Vuitton has fully enclosed the building in a16-story, 240-foot tall façade in the form of six stacked hard-sided trunks. This audacious and carefully created facade is finished with the classic detailing synonymous with Louis Vuitton’s products…authentic to a staggering degree…including handles (the largest of which weighs 5,000 pounds), signature locks, and silver hardware rendered in chrome-plated, laser-cut steel. 3D scans of real Louis Vuitton hard-sided trunks were used to create the locks and latches, and the steel corners have been hand-welded. And in the spirit of “no detail can be overlooked,” the stack features 840 rivets, each etched with the moniker “Louis Vuitton.”
