A welcome break from rain, the brilliant sun also made possible this dramatically elegant image of the balcony at Hotel de la Marine overlooking Place de la Concorde. Built in 1758 on what was originally swampland, these 2 identical Neoclassical facades housed the royal furniture, art, and crown jewels. Renovated in 2015 and 2021, this repository of French decorative arts is now open to the public.

What’s not to love about captivating, romantic, scintillating Paris? But when you add the sparkle of Christmas… well that begets a whole other list of superlatives. Top of my list for the images to capture was the glittering carousel in Place Vendome, set off by the sparkling lights on the Christmas tree, almost as tall as the iconic column in the center of the square. Speaking of glittering… how about Chanel’s statement, just around the corner. Merry Christmas from Paris!
