March is coming, and our thoughts turn to gardens. I’m very excited to announce that this month Flower magazinefounded by the marvelous Margot Shaw, will be featuring my Newport garden. Images are by Mick Hales, who also photographed both of my books, Private Newport: At Home and in the Garden and Living Newport: Houses, People, Style.

It was Margot (and Charlotte Moss) with whom I first had the opportunity to enjoy The Goring Hotel in London when we attended the Chelsea Flower Show. Last month I returned to The Goring, a small jewel that has turned pampering into a fine art.  It was heaven…and just the place for ladies traveling alone or in small groups. Oh, did I mention that the Goring also has the largest hotel garden in central London?

Enjoy this quick video that includes their most singular lobby with its hand painted Fromental wallpaper of whimsically portrayed animals cavorting across an English parkland.

And a little anecdote I think you’ll  enjoy…the hotel (where the then Kate Middleton stayed prior to her wedding) invited the now Duchess of Cambridge to put the finishing brushstrokes on the unicorn’s mane during the opening of the re-designed hotel. How appropriate!

With a nod to March, this Thursday will be the introduction of my spring series, “Inspiring  Garden Designs”…from New Orleans to London to Palm Beach.

Enjoy!

    1. Always fun to hear from you, dear Frances. Just tonight I was looking at my invite to the Hort dinner dance (but I’ll be in CA).
      Happy (early) Spring!
