Private Newport’s Most Singular Oceanside Rooms

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The cover of my first coffee table book, Private Newport: At Home and in the Garden, conveys in so many ways the sensibilities and design spirit of this post…shining a spotlight on rooms that represent their owner’s response to living in Newport, on the water.

Every time I look through these pages, I’m grateful that I was compelled to write and photograph Private Newport, for it captures a moment in time, 2002…17 years ago. Today, with two exceptions, the new owners of these homes have tailored the interiors to reflect their lifestyle proving again that the “progress” of a house is a natural evolution…which makes reflecting back all the sweeter and more meaningful.

Enjoy this trip down memory lane.

  2. Dearest Bettie,
Thank you so much for you kindness, inspiration, and joy.
Sharing all your favorite things with us was such a gift.
Now for a very important request, what about those potato

And since it sounds as though you’ll be entertaining soon, I’ll email you a shot of the package (of course you know that means I’ll have to eat some, too!)
      Happy summer! xBettie
