Dreamy Moments in the Garden

7 / 19 / 187 / 27 / 20

These dreamy moments are as much about the dreamy weather we’ve been having lately…cool nights and dry, warm days. They make a step into any garden that much more special,… Read More

“Meet Me in St. Louis”

5 / 31 / 185 / 15 / 24

St. Louis is a town I’ve longed to return to since my last visit, forty plus years ago. With a “thank you” to the Garden Club of St. Louis, for… Read More

Inspiring Garden Design: London’s Small Gestures

3 / 14 / 177 / 17 / 20

England’s justifiably famous gardens receive so much attention that sometimes one forgets that this heritage of “greening” trickles down to small gestures in urban surroundings. I’m always fascinated to see… Read More

Euonymus, an Overlooked Garden Design Asset

Euonymus

It’s always insightful to hear someone else’s “take” on one’s garden, especially if it’s Martha Stewart. Her interest in our use of euonymus (pronounced u-on-a-mus) as a design element caught… Read More

Just popped up on my feed, providing a wonderful memory from the past, an Atlanta home that we almost purchased (but plans changed and we Moved to New York). Atlanta starchitect of the 20’s, Neel Reid, designed this jewel on Habersham Road, in Buckhead, taking inspiration from Tintinhull House in Somerset, England. Huge limestone eagles perched on bold columns present a dramatic entrance to the cobblestone courtyard. The eagles, hallmarks of this distinguished residence, provide the basis for its name, Eagle House.

Who doesn’t love fireworks! Especially when the setting is Newport with its bridge festively lit and historic legacy (the same harbor from which Washington, Lafayette, and Rochambeau set sail during the American Revolution). Which fireworks are your favorite? Wishing you an effervescently joyous Fourth of July.
