Writing this as I sit in the perfectly named “morning room” at our comfy country house hotel, Fischer’s Baslow Hall, in Derbyshire.

With its well-tended gardens to be enjoyed through the leaded glass windows of my bedroom

Fischer’s is the perfect setting for a week of garden touring!

I also identified a possible metal sculpture of a seed head for Parterre (now to figure out how to get it to Newport).

Now I’m scooting off to Chatsworth… here are four quick teases

Bettie,
Loved these photos of England. I am very familiar with Chatsworth. I grew up in Leicestershire not far from Derbyshire.
Thanks Bettie for the pleasant diversion to the English countryside. Love that last photo capturing the roofline, garden and distant park view!

Just lovely! Enjoy!
How did you find this hotel, Bettie?
INCREDIBLE, thank you for sharing!
You lucky duck! How gorgeous! You’re not missing anything here where it is cold and raining. I cannot wait to see you upon your return! xo
There HAS TO BE English in my DNA! English Tudor has ALWAYS “spoken to me.” Having lived in our former 1937 English Tudor forty one years…it “speaks to me still through your photos.” ❤️

At a quick glance I thought this was Jayne Seymour’s country manor.
Love the pictures of Chatsworth as they brought back memories of Rome and the villas that encompassed rooms of statuary and art. The hotel and gardens are luscious viewing-drank a pot of coffee poring over them!
LOVELY LADY –
CHATSWORTH, KIND OF MAKES … ‘THE FRICK’ … APPEAR TO BE:
THE POOR (AMERICAN) COUSIN. (ONLY KIDDING!)
EVEN MY EXPERIENCE WITH MRS. POST (GREAT LADY THAT SHE WAS) …
COULD HAVE GOTTEN POINTERS FROM OUR COUSINS …
(ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE POND).
ALWAYS A JOY WHEN YOUR ‘HANDLE’ APPEARS ON MY – ‘IN MAIL’S LISTING.
The place is positively fabulous. You’re a lucky woman to stay there. Enjoy your time in England and have a blast.
Can you hear my heartbeat resounding at the wonder of Chatsworth? Oh my!! You selected the perfect accommodations to settle yourself for this special journey to the English countryside…I don’t envy, but
I might just a smidgen this time….
Oh how homesick does this make me feel. Our English countrysides do seem to stand beyond all else. Thank you for sharing.
