Before we finish Christmas week, I indulge in a tradition started a few years back…strolling the side streets of the Colonial areas of our town and recording their appropriately simple take on holiday decorations. At the opposite end of town from the Bellevue Avenue Gilded Age “cottages,” the Point and streets extending out from this original residential area of Newport are integral to the history of this “City by the Sea.”
I always come away fascinated with the variety and shades of shades of true Colonial house colors…and each year my favorite color is displaced by another.
And closing with a dear departed friends handsomely restored corner house, the side entrance paired so effectively with the front facade.
May the warmth, love and fellowship of Christmas day inform this last week of the year for you and become a prelude to 2018.
One of the reasons I love Newport is that is reminds me of my hometown of Annapolis, MD – for just these kinds of scenes. Merry Christmas!
Loved seeing all the Colonial era homes. Having lived in Williamsburg, VA previously, the pictures brought back many happy memories. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was quiet as many family members have that awful virus that’s going around. Did a lot of binge TV watching and eating.
