It’s an exciting time to be living and making a home in Palm Beach…the old guard are refreshing and updating at the same time that the young blood are moving in from the west and south, and down from the northeast, bringing their timely ideas with them. It’s the perfect occasion to be capturing these ever–evolving design trends on the nation’s most exclusive barrier island. Palm Beach Living, by Jennifer Ash Rudick and photography by Nick mele, has a “something for everyone” spirit that is mesmerizing. The size of the book attests to that….344 pages boasting 350 images!
From charming bungalows to sleek minimalist houses to restorations of iconic Mediterranean Revival residences, the homes showcased in Palm Beach Living are as distinctive as they are representative. The pages are brimming with comfortable homes that exude the pleasures of living in this special enclave…made possible by the talents of renowned architects, superb landscape designers, and bold name interior designers. And all embrace indoor-outdoor living…what represents that better than a lanai with its landscaped pool?
Who better to capture these scenes than Newport’s own Nick Mele“a modern–day Slim Aarons,” whom you’ll remember from many blogs and photos shoots for Private Newport. He was also the photographer of last summer’s best seller, A Newport Summer. Jennifer Ash Rudick, a Palm Beach native and author of many books on design, guides us around her storied town, seeming always to have her pulse on just what makes for a memorable CTB (Out East: Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons, City of Angels: Houses and Gardens of Los Angeles, Summer to Summer: Houses by the Sea.)

Tom, what a hoot to hear your insider tales. You must check in with my other commenter, Keith Morgan. and compare notes!! xB
This is a wonderful post about Palm Beach. I used to live in West Palm and worked in Palm Beach bringing flowers to all of our clients who lived there and including the Palm Beach country club. We had many celebrities who were our clients and I had a friend whose mother who is now deceased was a good friend of Mrs. Post and I remember, she told my friends mom that she uses witch hazel, it’s the best astringent in the world . Lol.
Keith, you and my other commenter (Tom Gardner) absolutely have to chat about your two worlds that crossed in PB.
Love the insider tales!! xB
Dear Bettie, Great reminder of my childhood days swimming in Palm Beach pools. Happily, I’m forwarding to my daughter who has a Clemson, M.S. in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management. She has a lovely pool in North Carolina and a cozy Lanai at her Florida winter home and she’ll enjoy seeing your past & present issues.
Always fun to bring back chidlhood memories. So happy I chose this theme. Stay tuned for next week’s follow-on! xB
