A Passion for Fall Plants

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

While our gardens may already have been put to bed, there is one garden source that never seems to sleep — “The Farmer’s Daughter,” just over the Newport Bridge in Kingstown, Rhode Island. After every visit, with the creative juices flowing, I am inspired and recharged for months. Capturing my favorites for you on this brilliant, blue sky day. Partake and enjoy!!

Just a “simple” display of fall’s gourds and pumpkins becomes an artistic exercise. Needless to say, everything grown at this flourishing garden center uses sustainable farming practices.

The Farmer’s Daughter is a treasured resource for many of us who yearn for unusual plant material and new ways to design with it, stretching our imagination to the max. Whatever the season, the greenhouse vignettes incorporate must-have accessories that complement the use of the plants in that area.

The handmade pots are a big draw for me, especially the soft rosa terra cotta that pairs well with both cement and zinc containers (don’t you love the old watering cans hanging from the ribs of the greenhouse?).

The still lifes created by the close team (under the direction of owner Sarah Partyka) are one of the examples of her credo “to change and grow as new and exciting ideas are born”…whether it be planning, planting, harvesting or dressing up our gardens.

All this talent deserves to be shared…pass it along!
