And just like “that”, Coaching took over the island the weekend of August 15-17. With 2 separate “drives” on Friday and Saturday and one Sunday morn, the number of people enjoying this panoply is remarkable…from the spectators lining the routes to the Whips, their out of town guests, and Newport participants in the social moments.

A black tie dinner dance on Friday night at Rosecliff confirmed yet again why this Gilded Age mansion is a first choice for special events in Newport (just ask any bride). The oceanside setting,

the romantic incarnation of the Grand Trianon at Versailles, the front facade turning golden as the sun sets. And those clouds which were such a bonus!

The temperature was balmy and a welcome breeze kicked up just as the 14 coaches, finishing their drive, swept up to Rosecliff’s entrance.

Living next door to this grand dame, I can say without bias that Mother Nature did her justice on Friday night.
Enjoy perusing these captured moments…

Such a romantic, beautiful evening!
Hi Bettie, LOVED the Coaching pictures ! They brought back fond memories….SO SPECIAL ! For 20 years I chaired the Coaching Event at Stratford Hall in Virginia when it was part of the Coaching Club rotation, so I have a real appreciation for what it takes to put this event together. Sadly , Stratford no longer participates but I’m glad to see a younger generation continuing the tradition in Newport. Keep the tradition alive and cheers to all !
My 2nd to favorite house in Newport! (Yours is FIRST!)
