Last year at this time, I had my first introduction to the opportunities afforded by YouTube when a former award-winning former producer for “Good Morning America” came to town. Alison Kenworthy effortlessly and gracefully created a sublime video of Parterre’s Interiors, applying her talents to her new intriguing channel on You Tube titled (in a creative riff on her name) “Homeworthy.” So far this video has garnered 725,000 views!
This summer she returned, on a cool, drizzly day, to document Parterre’s gardens in her inimitable stlye. You, my followers, who have heretofore just had the blog and Instagram/ Facebook will now also have a first ever “moving picture” of the gardens, horticultural tour de forces, and whimsies at Parterre. The video is at the end of this short selection of some of my favorite garden images. Enjoy!
Lavender must have a sloped bed for good drainage to survive!
Wonderful tour of your garden. Love, Roz
Thank you, Bettie! How divine!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and gardens.
Absolutely luscious marvelous video garden tour. Love it!
So glad you had a chance to view it; maybe it will urge you on to visit in person! xb
Where are the beautiful apricot climbing roses on the chain fence around your driveway? That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, anywhere!
Everything is beautiful! Please put the names of your rose varieties.
Aaah, Miri, they have a natural rest period in July to August and have just started reblooming, blessedly. Their name is ‘Crown Princess Margaretha.’ xB
Well, I always thought you looked like a movie star and you are. What a cozy, chic walk through your garden you have given us with such easy poise. You and the garden deserve Academy Awards!!!
I thought your first Homeworthy Tour was fantastic; so much so I have watched it at least 6 times. I am on the seconded viewing of Pardee2 and it is astounding! It is smart, beautiful and inspiring. You have a natural and engaging presentation style. My small garden needs much work and I am making a do-able plan for autumn through the next year. I wish you would plan a holiday home tour for us. I am making plans for a trip to Newport either this later this year. It is an exciting trip to plan.
Mary says: How magical, lovely and inspiring your garden tour is complete with birds chirping in the background! I haven never seen a rose chain, how creative you are! Thank you Bettie!

My pleasure, Mary, to share the fruits of hard work and beauty. Thank you! xB

Personal
Dear Bettie, Thank you for your parterre garden tour and the YourTube Homeworthy video. Knowing how much you love to garden and how much the bunnies like to sneak into your garden’s salad bowl is definitely adding to their population. I pray you are sustaining your health like one of those bunnies. Hearing you cough throughout the video after bending over, makes me wonder if you have a slight respiratory issue (not allergy) that you need to resolve. True it was a misty and cloudy, but you appeared to be very pale and washed out and over tired. “Please don’t overdue” from me to you, in His grip. Bonny
Oh Bonny, Luckily my NE post nasal drip has abated…you’re kind to offer your comment. xB
LOVELY LADY,
MY EVER PRESENT QUESTION. HOW IS IT, THAT ONE INDIVIDUAL (YOU), ARE SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE BOTH ‘TASTE’ AND GENEROSITY- THAT NEVER TIRES?
YOUR ‘POTTING SHED’ REMINDED ME (@ 19) WORKING WITH MRS. R. R. YOUNG,
ARRANGING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ARRANGEMENTS (IN HEAVY, HEAVY, STUBEN BOWLS) THAT WERE CHANGED AT THE SLIGHTEST WILTING.
BLESS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS.
TOM
Oh Tom, you should write a book. Dear fiends now live at Fairholme and I know she would love your tales of working for Mrs. Young.
Thank you for your kind compliments! xB
Dear Bettie, I must say that your home and gardens are absolutely gorgeous. I think you’ve out done yourself this time. I truly believe you have made what I can’t believe is only 3 acres look like a 300 acre estate! With the flow of the beds and placement of trees, shrubs, plants and the Orangerie it’s just it’s just unbelievable. For lack of a proper adjective all I can say it’s absolutely magnificent. Positively magnificent! I love it. Thank you for sharing this. Keith.
Thank you, Keith, and to quote Audrey Hepburn, “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”… and I’ll add “To maintain a garden.” When you’re fighting rabbits, deer, and voles at the same time one must reach deep into the soul to marshall on! xB
Oh my! Bettie, Thank you so VERY much for sharing your beautiful garden with us. You have some of the most beautiful Urns and flower containers. Sadly, I have never been able to grow peonies as large and healthy as yours. But, I will never give up trying. Our zone 8 heat and humidity keeps me busy watering and moving plants to shadier areas. You plants look HAPPY! Your Betty Corning Clematis which I saw in one of your Blog Post was the prettiest clematis I’ve seen. Please Please Please continue doing these videos of your lovely garden. Thank you for inviting us into your garden. Valerie 🌸🌹🌻🌼
You are so kind, Valerie. Yes, my blog has become a welcome permanent line item on my weekly calendar. Nothing brings me more satisfaction and gratification than sharing beauty with my Private Newport family!! xB
Dear Bettie,
What a beautiful video presentation of your garden! And also of your home. It was so much fun to walk around with you after not being in Newport for several years. I miss our Backgammon days together and being in your lovely home. Newport is such a special place, which I will always remember as being some of the best years of my life. Your video has brightened my day!
Much love, Dee Cushing
Aaah Dee, I remember those days with great fondness! Looking forward to seeing you soon, xB
