There are many signatures that are associated with Newport — magnificent crescent bay beaches; velvety lawns meeting the blue horizon of water; majestic trees adding grace to the streetscapes and parkland settings; warm days and cool, misty nights that ensure lush gardens…and the Parterre Bench.
Pairing this iconic garden accessory with blue hydrangeas, another Newport signature, is cause for celebration!
Which we’ve seemed to be doing on an almost weekly basis.
So dreamy in its soft focus!
And for your viewing pleasure, the Parterre Bench is now on YouTube! Thank you to Holly Holden for featuring my treasured garden accessory on her new YouTube channel “Holly Holden.” (I can’t forget to mention that her television series, “You Are Cordially Invited: Highclere Castle,” was nominated for an Emmy!) Do go to her YouTube channel to subscribe to the weekly episodes about classic design and living well.
What’s in your garden this summer?
I am so jealous of those hydrangeas. I have four, and they are no longer blue, even with the special fertilizer. And they suffer from the dry heat we have (which makes it bearable for humans, but the garden is wilting).
Mother Nature “giveth and she taketh away” (I always try and keep a sense of humor). Gardening is so humbling but we wouldn’t give it up, would we?And when the hydrangeas are their true blue there’s nothing more satisfying…
That’s fabulous. I’m eager to check out her YouTube channel. Thank you!
You will be very glad you did!! I’ve learned a lot…
I think the correct word in your first paragraph is “ensure”, not “insure”. Having said that, I absolutely LOVE everyone of your posts! This isn’t a criticism, I just happen to do “proofing” for a living so am more conscious of such oddities. Your posts are everthing I have ever wanted in this type of venue. Keep up the wonderful work!
What a lovely compliment and I so thank you for offering your talents (correctly!).
Please stay in touch with us…cheers from Newport, Bettie
