The first trees on our property to leaf out or bloom, this variety, Cherry ‘Hally Jolivette,’ produces the most exquisite small, single blossoms in a soft shell pink, clustered together so they give a bountiful appearance to the pruned shape of a fully opened parasol. Of course, this all happens before any leaves appear on the tree, lending an air of elegance to the display. While no mother likes to “play favorites,” I do have to confess that these four trees, and their position fronting the Orangerie, truly makes them the horticultural centerpiece of our three acres

When there’s a garden that lingers in your mind, year after many years...the stunning juxtaposition of 2 different knot designs, intersected with a bountiful row of roses under a partial pergola. Hidden away, right here in Newport, overlooking the water.

The owner of this Atlanta home charmingly describes her property as within an “English hamlet enclave” situated in the middle of the city’s noted Northwest residential area. The choice of stone, unusual for this part of Atlanta, is refreshing, inspired by her years in Charlottesville. It is this Virginia precedent that prompted the specific mandate to architect Norman Askins and landscape architect John Howard…create a country house with a city garden. And isn’t the approach to this “Virginia house” dreamy?
