Aaah, the happy memories that these posts have brought back. We lived at 61 Commonwealth Avenue, in the heart of Back Bay, and I treasured every moment. My childhood dream of living in an actual townhouse had come true! I’ll be highlighting some of the residential beauties that I’ve long admired…especially since their gardens and entryways are still enjoying the benefit of summer greenery. I’ve always felt there was a bit of occasion in stepping down from street level to enter a townhouse, especially when good design prevails in the outdoor entry area. To me, they were always a signature of Boston townhouses.

And for a close…Arguably the grandest residence in Boston, the Burrage Mansion is a French Renaissance-inspired building on Boston’s Commonwealth Avenue. Each of the 4 full floor residences feature all of the original entertaining rooms restored to museum quality. Additionally, the mansion’s Orangerie now serves as great room for one of the residences.
