Boston’s Back Bay Townhouses, Part 2

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The townhouses of Boston’s Back Bay have never looked better! So many periods, such a divergence in architectural styles, enhanced by tasteful gardens. Some are condominiums within a “row house” or private one-family homes…and then there are the apartments in grand buildings. I’m including a few for they add considerably to the streetscapes (as in the feature image, very close to our former home). Even though I was not yet a gardener when we were living in Boston, I was encouraging of our fellow condominium residents that we should “dress up” the small plot of land fronting our townhouse. It didn’t happen in that time frame, so you can imagine my delight as I walked “Comm. Ave.” on my recent stay, marveling at the attention to details…from what I refer to as “pocket parks” to, at the least, a well planted pair of urns… that have been created over the last three decades.

And I can’t overlook the street where Commonwealth Avenue begins. I’m so admiring of the tasteful urbanization of Arlington Street, that well deserved some TLC!

One gracious townhouse owner created a garden that took up the corner of their property, adding a curved path through the beds (for passersby to enjoy)?

Happy Fall to all…
