Easter Entertaining for the Aspiring Hostess

Easter

With all the bunnies hopping, flowers blooming and spring fever popping, everyone is in a most celebratory mood; especially since Easter, coming so early, gives us another excuse to put on our party shoes. How could I not share some of the best-of-the-best in creative ideas and hints of inspiration from some of my favorite websites, vetted through the lens of Private Newport.

Have a look, pick your favorites and order away!

It’s spring and the first word that comes to mind for me is light — light colors, light mood, light table decor, light fare, light attire.

Williams-Sonoma has a refreshing take on Easter, building their theme around one thing — lemons —  and in a greenhouse, no less. The lemon “chandelier” caps off the tablescape!

Faux bois seems a natural pairing with the lemons — the 13″ charger that can also serve as its own kind of place mat.

Individual chic painted metal flowers can stand on their own if you just want a low maintenance floral touch or they can function as candle sticks.

The traditional Easter menu usually includes ham or lamb, which I like to pair with some lighter choices — salmon tart appetizer, citrus salad with prosecco, leeks vinaigrette, fettuccine with peas and asparagus.

Continuing the natural theme, a subtle take on pasta “thongs” — gold toned leaves at the end of a branch — will serve up the spring fettuccine and spark some conversation, too.

And for dessert — a pink “rose” cake.

An Easter table party favor? A carrot “surprise,” filled with toys and what-nots, that reveal themselves as Peter Rabbit’s favorite is unwrapped.

And for your host or hostess? Chic-ly decorated rich chocolate truffles in welcome nontraditional shapes.

One last detail — what to wear? From Anthropologie to Oscar de la Renta, spring colors and fabrics couldn’t be more appealing and sure to put you in the mood.

  1. Absolutely fabulous Bettie! You have such a beautiful flair and I really enjoy everything you write. I’m having an Easter luncheon Sunday afternoon and can’t wait to use some of these ideas. I’m having an adult Easter egg hunt with prizes, which should be lots of fun.
    Happy Easter to you too!!
    Much love, Dee
