Initial Thoughts, Seasonal

Anticipating Summer 2025

Hurray! It’s the Merry Month of May! Spring is popping (after a too cold, too windy winter). And I’m off mid month to England. But when I return this is what awaits…Home Sweet Home, surrounded by the anticipation of summer 2025 in the Newport I love. “Let me count the ways…”

Blue skies punctuated with dramatic white clouds…

and green lawns sweeping down to the water’s edge (all the better if you have grape vines scattered about).

Misty morns and foggy afternoons.

Iconic old homes and gardens, passing on to the second generation.

Hydrangeas, in all the colors imaginable.

Garden gates and estate gates.

Bellevue Avenue “gas” lamps recalling the Gilded Age.

Grand, majestic trees of all ages, sizes, and shapes.

Gatehouses and stables…charming and quirky, they recall romantic days gone by. Very relevant to another era’s lifestyle, their presence adds an important note to Newport’s neighborhoods.

Gardens that inspire, intrigue, and beguile.

And always, a Newport sunset…

No surprise, Newport promises to be a beehive of activity this summer–from music festivals to sailing regattas to creative fund raisers that get the town talking…like the “Evening At Home” event, (July 15th and 16th) supporting our 30 year old Aquidneck Land Trust. Give up the 500-under-a-tent and dine around in the exceptional homes across Aquidneck Island (everyone admits that in their heart of hearts, they adore the opportunity to see and dine in someone else’s home; see Feature image). All for the time sensitive cause of conservation of open space and clean water on our treasured island home!

Happy Spring, and hope you’ll join us for “Evening at Home” in July…
