Palm Beach Living: Part 2

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Jennifer Ash Rudick and Nick Mele’s new book, Palm Beach Living, well deserves two postings. With 350 images (and 344 pages), the tome is a testimony to the ever-evolving and diverse design trends available on the country’s most exclusive barrier island. While the first post captured an embrace of indoor-outdoor living as represented with the lanai and swimming pool theme, this post focuses on the details that bring wit, whimsy and sophistication to this iconic lifestyle. A gracious plenty of details to stretch your imagination and pique your inspiration, each property reflects the unique aesthetic of the owner, realized with the help of renowned architects, superb landscape designers, and world–class interior designers.

Color! Color! Color! is prevalent throughout (with a more neutral palette in some homes adding a soothing contrast). From memorable murals to dramatic ceilings, from a putting green to a majestic entry arch to a tented bedroom, all convey that ease of living which is such a hallmark of Palm Beach. Enjoy your intimate look!

Jennifer Ash Rudick is the author of Out East: Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons, City of Angels: Houses and Gardens of Los Angeles, Summer to Summer: Houses by the Sea, and Palm Beach Chic. The design editor at large for Galerie magazine and a contributor to Veranda, she has written for numerous national publications. She is a producer of documentary films, including the Emmy nominated Iris and Scandalous. A native of Palm Beach, she lives in New York.

Nick Mele is a lifestyle, fashion, commercial, and interiors photographer whom Veranda magazine called “a modern-day Slim Aarons.” He is the photographer of A Newport Summer and his work has been featured in many print and online publications, including Town & Country, the New York Times, Avenue, Quest, Architectural Digest, Vogue, and Vanity Fair. Among his commercial clients are Ralph Lauren, Sam Edelman, J. McLaughlin, and Lilly Pulitzer. He divides his time between Newport, Rhode Island, in summer and Palm Beach in winter.

  1. It’s like visiting an “intoxicating foreign country!” One can almost, “see it all” there as the old adage implies. Luv’d the book capture through your eyes. franki

  2. THE MAGIC CONTINUES 16 MAR 23
AS THE FORMER 4TH FOOTMAN (JR. BUTLER) FOR MRS. MM POST (1967) & NOW, AN EVER SO SLIGHTLY ‘JADED’ UPPER EAST SIDER, THE PHOTOS BRING BACK FOND MEMORIES OF WHAT PB WAS, & IS – ALL ABOUT.
MRS. POST UNDERSTOOD THE GOOD LIFE, BUT WAS WILLING TO SHARE IT, ALL THE WAY DOWN TO HER EMPLOYEES.
THOSE HOMES EXISTED, EVEN TODAY – BECAUSE A HOST OF ‘FACTORS’ COME INTO PLAY.

    LONG MAY THOSE ‘FACTORS’ CONTINUE.

  3. Just love all of those “tented” rooms. I so admire the designers in PB as they ensure that the entire space in each room is considered and those graceful, charming gardens and gates and doorways are total eye candy!
