What to Wear: The Newport Flower Show Weekend

What are you wearing?? It’s the question asked around the world. With scores of friends coming from near and far for the Newport Flower Show, I’ve heard this more than once. And uttered it more than once myself when setting off for a fun gathering. So it occurred to me that I can do one better than laying out my clothes and sending along Kodak pictures. How about putting them on a blog so no one’s left out! And what a lovely coincidence that early in the Show’s history, this luscious photograph (above) was taken of a floral arranging class in the ballroom that was inspired by Mary McFadden dresses.

Gingham is so “in,” especially as a blue and white wrap dress.

Off the shoulder dresses are  fun and current, especially in a Newport-in-the-summer colorful print.

And my latest find, the BrushOnBlock®, gives the glow without the risk. Dust this 30 SPF right over your foundation — how convenient!

I’m into tassels earrings — from Oscar de la Renta to Haarstick.

A pashmina for sure, since temperatures drop twenty degrees at night in Newport.

After ordering seven pairs of espadrilles online, I settled on this pair of Adrianna Papell — high, as the look should be, but not too high; good support strap around the heel; grosgrain ribbon ties; and with their linen lace fabric, a bit more dressed up than canvas.

The length of this silk tunic, in  my favorite shades of apricot and coral, is what chics it up a notch; worn over apricot silk pants that also give a shot of color to the shorter white linen tunic.

For the opening night cocktail party,  my new favorite skirt — deep blue organza flowers also carried out in a bold necklace that dresses up the white, silk scoop neck blouse with puffed sleeves.

Saluting a flower show — floral silk shoes, of course!

Neoprene gives a kick to the skirt of this floral bouquet — a dressed down take on cocktails.

Hope you’ve been inspired. See you at the Flower Show!
